Hi Everyone,
Sorry for the delay in my updates. Things are improving daily. Mom is scheduled for her next surgery, July 14th. They will be removing the halo on the right leg and putting on a full leg cast. The cast will only have to be on for about 2 weeks and once it comes off she will start to put some weight on that leg! Yeah!!
The left leg: during that surgery they will be removing the internal metal plate from her ankle. This will hopefully allow the open wound to heal. She will continue to wear a wound vac until that is healed. Once that is done, then they will determine how to continue to heal the bones, cast?, brace? but we are not sure.
Mom is relieved at this point and is feeling that there really is some light at the end of the tunnel, even though we are still a good ways out for that left leg.
She is getting around a little better and car rides aren't as painful. We are going to take her to the mall this weekend because she said she is ready to shop. You know she must be feeling better. :-)
Please continue to keep her in your prayers. She appreciates each of you and can't wait to see everyone again.
Love always, Rhonda

Hello ALL!!
I hope that everyone is doing well. I am not sure how many still check this site, but for those of you who do here is a little update.
We had a nice relaxing 4th of July. BBQ'd some, drank a little, and played some yahtzee.
Mom, my Aunt,Chuck, and I took Shorty to Blawkhawk for a couple of hours. We didn't win, but we sure did have fun trying!! :-)
Monday is another surgery. We have to be at the hospital at 10am, and the surgery is scheduled for 12. Pray hard!!!
We were just informed tonight that there will be a benefit in Shortys honor at the Conejos Ranch on Monday July 14th from 6pm-8pm. I know that it is short notice, but if anyone down that way would like to participate call the Ranch for details (719)376-2464.
We appreciate y'all keeping us in your prayers.
Taking ONE DAY AT A TIME~
With LOVE,
Steph

Hi Everyone, We are home from the hospital!!! Yeah!! Mom is doing really well. She is having a lot of pain in the left leg and she is tired but other than that, she is good! Before we left the hospital, we took her to see all her old buddies, nurses and physical therapist, on the 6th floor. They were all very excited to see her and hear of her progress. They especially liked her pink and green argyle designer cast. Haha. The ranch had a benefit dinner and singing for her last night and that really overwhelmed her heart. The next best thing would have been if we could have taken her there. We go see her orthopedic surgeon again in 12 days and if the xrays are good on her right leg, she may get to start walking. Keep the prayers coming. They are definitely getting her through this! Love to all, Rhonda

Hey, its me again!
We had a great day today. Mom had a doctors appointment today with the plastic surgeon and we were able to see the left leg for the first time since surgery. I was amazed that the healing had already begun. The wound looked better than it has looked in weeks. Still not healed but looked good. We were all very excited.
Mom's doctor Stephen Snively is a great doctor and one of his trademarks is his wild and crazy socks that he always wears so Mom had us order him some socks: one with margarita glasses on them and the other with little chihuahua's. She gave them to him today and he was thrilled.
We go to the orthopedic doc in two weeks and are praying that the news will be as good for the bone healing.
Life is good! Rhonda

Hi Everyone,
Tomorrow is a big day for Mom as we will find out if the cast on the right leg gets removed. If so, then she will be able to start putting weight on it. The left leg is doing better from a wound stand point but we are not sure how the bones are healing since the metal plate has been removed. Xrays will be done tomorrow so I will update everyone.
Please pray that walking is in her near future!
Love to all, Rhonda

oh Glory Day!!! MOM IS STANDING.... Not very long or not very steady, but she is standing.
Today's doctor's appointment went great! Dr. Riester (ortho guy) took the cast off the right leg and did x-rays of both legs. He said that the left ankle was healing nicely but felt that the right leg (right under the knee) was not healing as well as he had hoped, so he put her right leg back in a cast. However, he gave her instruction to start putting weight on both legs. The left leg is in a stabalizer boot to help give that ankle some support. Mom was a little disappointed that the cast had to go back on and he did tell us that after 3 more weeks he would have to look at the right leg again and MIGHT have to put a plate in. But he felt that putting some weight on it might help it to heal.
So, we have a walker and Mom stood a couple of times this evening but it was very awkward and will take some time for her to feel confident that she won't fall. But overall, we are all very excited to see her on her feet.
!We could not have made it this far without all of you so please celebrate this milestone that we have just crossed. You are all a blessing.
Love to you, Rhonda and family

Hi Everyone, Just wanted to let everyone know that Mom is doing pretty well. Everyday she walks a little from her room to the kitchen and on the deck and back. Its a little painful and frustrating for her but she is getting more steady everyday.
She is definitely ready to get back to the ranch and see everyone. Right now we are planning a trip down south the weekend of the 16th for a couple of days as long as she is up to it.
Everyone take care and know that your prayers continue to be answered.
Love to all, Rhonda and family

Hi Everyone, Well, we were suppose to take Mom down to the ranch today but she decided yesterday that it was going to be too much for her. She continues to improve but is still not walking very well. She has a lot of pain if she stays up to long. The other issue is that she still needs to sleep in the hospital bed that we have here and sleeping at the ranch might be a challenge.
Its a busy upcoming week for her and she wants to be as strong as possible. Monday is the plastic surgeon appointment and Tuesday is a big appointment with the orthopedic surgeon. She will have x-rays again and they will determine if the right leg is healed enough to come out of the cast or if there will be another surgery to put a plate in right below the knee.
I will post after the Tuesday appt. and let you know the verdict.
Love to you all, Rhonda

Hi Shorty,
We had a wonderful stay at the Conejos last week - just us and Brian's family/grandkids. It wasn't the same however and we missed you terrible. Fishing was ok -we got 2 meals out of it but nothing big. The place looks good and everything is so very green. We missed the horses this year - they need you back there to promote the riding. All of us are hoping you had a positive check up this week and won't have to have additional surgery. So sorry you couldn't make it to the range on the 16th. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers daily...oh, my grandaughters, Mackenzie and Madison have decided they want to work at the range one day and own it eventually and live in the big house across the river with the wrap around porch - the Birch's I think. Great dreams. Love you much, Lea & Gary Randolph
