Hi, just a quick update on Mom.. Friday was a hard day for her. She so wanted to come home but hopefully it won't be long. Her leg seems to be a little better and the good news is that its not worse so we are just waiting. Yesterday she was back to her spunky self. She, Steph and I played spades for a little while. Then we practiced getting her in and out of my car with the therapist. That went really well! So, now all we need is the doctor to tell us to go home. It's Sunday and we are headed back up to the hospital after a stop at Target. Be sure to check out the new hospital pictures that were posted last night. More soon... Love, Rhonda

We'll be thinking of you tomorrow. I know everything will go well, so no worries. We saw the horses yesterday and David is printing some pictures I will mail you tomorrow of your colt and of Candy and Luna. Prissy is as big as a house! The horses have been moved into the pasture across from the corral. It is bigger and nicer. Jane wanted to give the little ones room to run and play. Your colt has a handsome face, and he's a beautiful color. Lot of love, David and Valerie

Back on Track!
Hi Everyone, Mom's surgery went great yesterday. It only took about an hour for the surgery, then an hour for recovery. She came out of recovery very alert and hungry.
Her doctor did a lot of clean up: cleaning wounds, taking out staples and stiches, etc. and confirmed that the right leg looks great from a wound perspective. On the left leg, he cleaned off the dead tissue. He said that every piece of the graft looked healthy except an area of the size of a 50 cent piece so he removed the bad area, said he could see the metal plate (not good), but decided to do a skin flap (taking a piece of skin from other areas of the ankle and just flapping them over the hole. He thinks that the good muscle will fill in the hole as long as its covered. We will see him again in 2 weeks for an update on that.
The good news: if all goes well... Mom will be home on tomorrow! Yeah!!!!
God Bless you all, Rhonda

IT'S GOOD TO BE HOME!
Just a quick update. Mom was extremely tired when we got her settled in at the house last night. She has been running a low temp all morning and is sleeping a lot. There is a lot of pain in the left leg that will take a few days to settle down.
The nurse home care starts today and they will be here around noon. Physical therapy will start up again on Tuesday.
She is excited to be out of the hospital and said that it was nice to see colored sheets on the bed. :-)
We will continue to update this site. Love to all of you, Rhonda

Hi Everyone,
Yesterday we took Mom for an outing. We went over to mine and Roberts friends (Mike and Suzie) for dinner. It was great to get her out. She had four strong men carrying her in the house in her wheelchair. I told her to enjoy that while it last! :-) We were only gone for a couple of hours but it really wore her out.
We have a nurse that comes by every couple of days and a physical therapist that comes and does exercises with her.
Chuck is taking over the care of Mom during the week so I can work. Steph will be back this summer. We really miss her.
My cousin Sandra will be back here soon also. It is so great to hear from my relatives and they have been so supportive. (Paula, I need your email!!! :-) )
Keep prayers coming that Mom will be able to walk soon. Love to you all, Rhonda

Hi Everyone, Just a quick update on Mom. We went to see her plastic surgeon today so he could look at the left leg. He thinks it is healing very well. She will continue to have the wound vac on for a while (maybe 3 weeks) to help it heal. She was in a lot of pain when we returned home but once she got settled (feet on pillows and pain meds) she began to feel better.
I can tell that she is getting better every day as she gets bored very easily! :-)
The prayers are being answered so keep them coming.
Love to all, Rhonda

Hello Shorty! We are so glad you got out of that hospital. We went to Sheep Creek and arrived to snow! We went by to say hello to everyone at Conejos Ranch and the place was looking ready and on high alert! I went down to look at that raging river and out came Bubba running to greet me and get some big hugs for about ten minutes straight. I cried a river..................Thinking of you often. Love, Kathy, Neal, AP and Frankie

Hi Everyone,
Mom is healing pretty well. We see the ortho surgeon on Wednesday and we are anxious to hear if there is a plan yet for the right leg. Her left leg is healing nicely but both legs continue to be very painful for her.
Her spirits are up and down as to be expected but she is trying hard to keep her chin up. She really misses her animals and is dying to see her new colts. We are hoping to make a trip to the ranch in July so she can see everyone but we will have to play it by ear.
She truly appreciates all the cards and prayers so keep them coming.
Love to all, Rhonda

A little bad with the good!
Mom had two doctors appointments this week. One with the orthopedic doctor and today with the plastic surgeon. The ortho visit was pretty good. They did x-rays and said that Mom's bones were healing rather well but still needed time. He is going to re-xray her right leg in 3 weeks and see if it is healed enough to take the external fixator off. If he does, he will either put her in a cast or a leg brace for a couple of additional weeks before he will allow her to put any weight on that leg. He said that the left leg was healing also but that it would be at least 10 weeks before she would be allowed to put any weight on that leg.
Now for the other doctor. So, her left leg (ankle crushed, muscle and skin graft... just to jog your memory) has a place that is still not healing. A portion of the skin graft done several weeks ago has pulled away and has exposed the plate and screws internally. He wants to try another graft and may try to wait until the other doctor is ready to take off the hardward on the right leg. This way they will only have to put her to sleep once.
As you can imagine, her spirits were a little crushed today so please let her know you are thinking of her.
I will keep you informed. Love to all, Rhonda
